Wishful Thinking

Lisa and my mom have been pressuring me to know what I want for my birthday. I don’t know what I need, but if you read this whole post you can find out what I want.

My Amazon Wishlist, on which there are very few books, because I don’t read like I did when I was a kid, so I don’t want books for presents most of the time. Well, I wouldn’t mind some more Mexican cookbooks. Not that I ever cook anymore, even though I have all the tools that I need in the kitchen (besides a blender with a glass pitcher thing — but we already have a blender and not a lot of room in the kitchen). I guess I could use some masa flour and a deep fryer, but Cake Woman doesn’t so much want a deep fryer, so fight that shit out with her. I can fry things in my cast iron anyways, if I were to cook. I guess I could use some pyrex mixing bowls, as well as some more of those 4-6 ounce prep bowls for laying out ingredients.

Also, 20 ounce beer glasses. I know that beer only comes in 12 ounce bottles in these parts, but I want that fluted shape and barrel capacity. It makes the head look nice.

I have trade paperbacks 1, 3, and 4 from the awesome Hellboy series. If you say “trade paperback” they will know what you mean at the comic store. If you are not at the comic book store and you are buying comic books, you should feel bad for not supporting the habits of unwashed fanboys.

If you’re dead set on buying me some books, look on the aforementioned wish list for some Tim Powers stuff. That’s what I really want — especially the pirate one that bharat talked up for months and months. Arrrr. Lately I have come to love the whole “magical realism” thing a lot, except that I never got to the tipping point in “One Hundred Years of Solitude” where it apparently becomes the best book ever, so take that all with a grain of salt. Or something. Just don’t buy me books at random. I’ll just feel guilty every day that I don’t read them. Every day. Without fail. Every goddamn day I think about those gift books that I unpacked and put on the shelf the last couple of times that I moved, but still haven’t read. Ugh.

The clutch on my cordless drill broke, so I returned it. I want a cordless drill in the 12 volt range, 18 volts if you got ‘em.

I would like a bottle of good tequila. 100% agave, either reposado (”rested” in oak barrels for 2-12 months) or aƱejo (aged in oak barrels for more than a year). Nothing marked “Jose Cuervo” in any form, please.

I want a Playstation 2 so I can play Gran Turismo 4. I have a PS1 and GT1, GT2, and GT3. I can’t play GT3 on my PS1. I also like fighting games. The fan on my video card went out and the card overheated and died, so I am using Stan’s old video card, which means that my PC is no longer capable of playing modern video games. :)

I could use a 1+ gigabyte compact flash card for my digital camera. Most stores will rip you off compared to the internet pricing. I could use a new pocketable digital camera. I like the Canon Powershots, from the very cheapest of the A series to the Digital Elphs… Elphses… tricksy tricksy Elpheses. Speaking of cameras, I could probably use a film body — I hate to beat the Canon horse, but I have EOS lenses already, so that’s the sort of body that I could use. Anything manually controllable for the photo class this fall. I think. Also, lightstands. I occasionally take pictures in the house, and I would like a couple of reflective umbrellas. I’m pretty ready to just buy a couple of floor lamps with flexy tops from IKEA and stick compact flourescents into them, but I don’t have umbrellas. So, if you know a photo place that’s cheap you might be able to find light stands with the umbrellas and then I won’t be rube goldberging it every time Cake Woman wants pictures of her couch, which is every day.

  1. It makes the head look nice.

    …that’s what they all say.

  2. Especially Jens!

  3. Why don’t you just take the Pyrex mixing bowls you left at our house? And the little plastic colored IKEA bowls?

Gee, I’m glad you listed something for $1,019.95. I was worried that there wouldn’t be anything on there we couldn’t afford.

You should ALWAYS make lists. No shame in getting what you want, yo.

  4. Gee, I guess this means I’ll have to return that box of eXotic romance novels I bought for you. Unless you want to rip off the book covers to decorate the wall above your desk.

I was also thinking about sewing you a bicycle cozy. You know, like a tea cozy, only a LOT bigger. Maybe something in a spaceboy print fabric? Or if there’s some other fabric you’d prefer, I’m flexible.

I just want my son to be happy. That’s all. Happy happy happy. There’s I’ve said it.

  5. Next annoying question:

“When’s the drunken, time to open the presents and have fire on the cake celebration?”

  6. Oh, and note to MaReade: I’ll have to stop crocheting the bike cozy I was making for his bike now. Maybe I could revamp it to fit over the toilet? Hmmm. . . .toilet cozy.
