Que Sera Sera

Que Sera Sera: SWEET AS THE PUNCH

Remind me to never write anything again unless it is as steeped in awesome as the website above. I was writing a long mopey email to a friend and took a break to read some blog action and almost immediately stopped the email forever.

It was This post: http://queserasera.org/archives/000916.html

Maybe I will stick to the ol’ photography, since the digital photography class went so awesomely, except for the not-sleeping-until-6am business last night as I put together my final project.

I did take an excellent nap this afternoon while Lisa was massaging a random woman and Stan was taking Noah to Toys-R-Us, which is closing. It was the sort of nap where I didn’t notice myself falling asleep, but I woke up with a start. Since I had no immediate need to get up I enjoyed a little cool down period where I closed my eyes and half-napped. I might be a little sore tomorrow because I didn’t stretch before my nap, but that soreness can be a real badge of honor.

Also, Sideways was excellent. I highly approve. You don’t need me to tell you that, since everyone and their mothers already loves it and are drinking wine by the bucketfull as a result. In our home we drank our usual motley bucket of spirits, from Maibock to pear cider to screwdrivers. Pear cider! That used to be the goto salve for Lisa’s moods. Now it is just something we have in the fridge.

I’m gonna go lie awake in bed for a number of hours now. There is a price to pay for a good nap, and this is it.

Delicious Layer Cake

I shouldn’t have to tell you what I thought of this movie. Totally awesome. I’d go so far as to call it a masterwork, but then I’m generous and not judgemental.

The plotting was intricate without being busy, the camerawork inventive without being overwrought with artiness, and the action was violent without being a vast sea of meaningless combat. Basically, this movie was the polar opposite of Star Wars Episode Three: well written, well acted, well done. I could go on about the anti-hero turning evil and being undone in the end, but that would be stretching the analogy far beyond its domain.

I didn’t even know that there was a Silver Angel Thrift Store

If that dude is waiting for someone who went into the store, well, she ain’t comin’ back, buddy. She ain’t comin’ back.

P.S.: Stan and I are going to see Layer Cake tonight, from the makers of Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. I understand that the F bomb is dropped from inscalable heights. I weep with excitement.

Did I say 15? I meant 50

Well, we only saw like 20 or so out front, but there was most likely another force of equal size on the other side of the block across the street. There were k9 units and dudes with glorious moustaches. I went out to see if I could figure out what was going on, but when you hear a dozen cops rack their shotguns simultaneously you tend to go back inside and peek. Thusly, I missed the big rush where they swarmed through the backyards across the street. I heard two bangs, the neighbors heard three. After a while, the police just strolled back to their cars and drove away. I did manage to ask one what happened and she said:

They had to pick up a guy, and they wanted some help.

To which I responded:

Did I hear… gunshots?

She then said (equally helpfully):

Probably flash grenades. I was in the back.

A bunch of the neighbors and I walked around the block to see what we could figure out. (We met three new sets of neighbors in the process.) When we got around the block to the house where the fuzz had been, we met a nice old lady who rambled on about the guy who had come around for food a couple of weeks ago (and never left?) and her daughter, whom she thought was calling when the po po called, because her daughter was due to have her baby in the next three weeks. Then she rambled about her future new granddaughter, her own health problems, and whatever else Ms. Social Worker Lisa could pry out of her.

At least it was a nice night for a S.W.A.T. raid. Totally awesome. I saw Colin Farrell and Samuel L. Jackson in the mass of silent police officers somewhere. Cocky bastards! Their unorthodox methods won’t fly in this by-the-book captain’s station!

Uh, sorry about that. Now do I watch Sideways or Futurama?

Is that a laser sight?

Approximately 15 cops with guns and vests were just out front. Fortunately they weren’t breaking down my door. WTF?
